Alright well I bit the bullet and took apart my intake to see what I was dealing with. I decided rather than take the whole divider plate off I would just make a rectangle around where the hole that feeds air to the airfilter. Didn't look like I did a whole lot but on the test drive there was a HUGE change, from before where I thought I maybe heard the SC to OMG someone installed a Hoover under there. Nice little mod, didnt notice much in the butt-dyno but it did seem like it was breathing a bit more and it did pull alittle harder near redline so all for not I think it was worth the 1/2 hour spent. Took some pics of what I did exactly. However I have no where to host them.

i figured i should ask this question in the most recent thread about gutting the airbox.
what'* the best way to go about cutting off that rectangle at the end of the box? hacksaw? sawzall? dremel? i can't figure out a good way to get that part of the airbox out, and i wonder if i could stick a dremel in there while it'* still in the car. i gutted the two main things that can be popped out, and only minimally noticed a difference.
by the way, i could write up a techinfo article if needed, but i'm not quite done with the whole procedure, so it wouldn't be complete...but nobody else seems to be jumping on the job, and it would be a very good, helpful article.

With the help of 94bonni, I put in a gutted airbox on my 01 SSEi. He had an extra box laying around, so I used the dremel and basically cut everything out of it. Took maybe 30 min to clean everything up, and about 15-20 min to take the old box out and put the new one in. Noticed a big diference. I was averaging around 3 MPG better on the highway than with the stock box. However, in town MPG is down a little, about 1-2 MPG. It'* to be expected though.
