Gutted airbox = no KR?
Well, I took off my JMB FWI intake and went back to my stock gutted airbox to see if it would lower the IAT temps. I left the aluminum dryer hose inplace going from the front airdam and put the end in the airbox and sealed it off with aluminum tape. Well, with the gutted airbox/hose the intake temps are cooler and the low KR I had with the FWI (see KR vid in motion section) is now gone. I thought that the FWI was suppose to lower KR? I should have bought the scan guage before I bought the FWI. Why would I get lower KR with the gutted airbox verse the FWI? I thought an FWI was better for the SC and KR?

I ran the gutted airbox for two days and went back to the FWI. I did a little testing with my scan guage to see what the difference was with the intakes and the IAT temps. It was a very sunny day and the ambient air temperature ranged from 86 to 89 dergrees during all testing. The IAT temps with the airbox driving in heavy stop and go traffic was 113. Sitting at a red light for five minutes, the temp hit 120. While driving at 65 for 10 minutes, the temp never dropped below 96. I then switched back to the FWI and drove the same route. While driving in traffic the FWI was 98, sitting at the same red light the temp was 128 (higher than the airbox) and at 65 the temp dropped to 90. So, even though the FWI hit a higher temp sitting at a red light than the airbox, once moving the FWI was able to draw cooler air in quicker and had a lower temp than the airbox.

Not much difference in temps. I can't imagine that'* your KR problem. Unless it'* rattling somehow, or the airflow is so different the PCM needs time to adapt.
