Just had a thought. I think I can temporarily prevent the fluid from leaking out. Drop 6-8 quarts of trans fluid in it, leave it up on jackstands, get it up to operating temp, and run it up to 40mph with no load.

Now you're using your noggin! Hope you can get this idle relearned properly. Would it be wise to run a fan in front of your grille, much as they do for dyno runs? I guess it depends how long you're going to hold it at 40mph.

Well, there can't be more than a teaspoon of fluid in the trans right now. We had it idling for about 10 minutes last night, and got it pretty warm. We shut it down because of the stench of burning trans.

Gee, I hope we didn't hurt it. LMFAO!

it shouldn't be too much of an issue at all... he'* not going to be running this thing to 6000 rpms, and he'll be doing it as soon as it hits running temp. I don't imagine he'll do it for too long either... so no worries of overheating...
