Default 10 free horse power. Lots of pics

Hey folks. Finally got the right tools to remove the front bumper so I decided to remove the steal beam

No more steel beam

Im no rocker science man but I think that bracket that use to hold up the beam is good enough protection in a frontal crash

Im 180 pounds. Heres me holding the beam. Only 20 pounds but still every bit counts.

A few months ago I removed the rear beam. I also figure that bracket thingy is good enough protection. It was 23 pounds.

Heres all my undercarpet sounddeadening gone. About 15 pounds.

If you dont have a long drive to work might as well ditch the spare and jack. Jack and bar is about 8 pounds. The little *** spare surprised me. About 31 pounds

I also ditched my engine cover and hood insulation. I figure thats a pound or 2.

Added all up Thats about 99 pounds gone.

So I guess if anyone else wants to do this lose 1 pound and thats 100 pounds right there. Dont try so hard losing that 1 pound cause Im sure your sexy.

Or just get a light weight battery. Those save 28 pounds.

There you go they say 100 pounds is 10 horse power .1 or 14 feet in the quarter and a 3% MPG gas savings.

Thats a cool Idea but I would never be able to do that in nNew York. Here you park in the street bumper to bumper and believe me they bump you all the time when they are backing up . Without that the bumber the plastic cover would cave-in. I guess thats what I get for living in the Big apple.

Well, I have to say, It was good knowing you. The reason the beam is there is to transfer the load of a rear end collision to the pistons and crumple zones, thus reducing damage and injury. Without that now, even a 10 MPH bump might be enough for the front of rear of the other car to hit your radiator/trunk pan and damage it. Also, you might not be able to get insurance if you bump someone since you removed them. If I were you, I would look at the 92-95 bumper beams cause they are a hardened plastic (if yours is metal) and might be lighter, or even put a board in there, even though I don't think it'll hold up as well.

Good try on losing weight though.

Thanks for your concern. I never rear ended anyone and If I do my cars worth $3000 at most so its no Bently

My dad drives a Geo Metro as his everyday driver. I can shake that car up pretty good. My cars still 3300 pounds and I have air bags. My dads car is what 1000 pounds no air bags? Guys on bikes drive way more recklessly and have their face as an impact beam.

Ill be ok. I hope. Im not a reckless driver. I pick my spots to drive quick Only when I know the road ahead has no intersections so theres no chance of someone running a red.

My theory is if you drive fast recklessly enough to injure yourself badly what goods a beam.

Just drive as safe as possible folks. Buckle up for safety

ComfyCar - You and me are a few Bonne owners that actually take weight into a factor. Hopefully it pays off for you!

Now take out your rear seats.

Also remove the front speakers, cd deck and rear deck speakers. The front door speakers will clear at least 20 lbs. My stock ones were really heavy and were 6 3/4'*.

The first time you have a frontal collision you will regret removing that bumper.
It could be the difference between minor damage and a complete write off.
