the valve springs i got are 105#'* there like 15 more #'* than the LS6 springs the GTP guys use. i would've gotten those but, they aren't compatible w/ the '96-'97 heads. i thought about the new stockers and was honestly going to go w/ them buti went w/ 105# and higher shifts as advised. i'm not worried about the motor @ 6100-6200 because ive talked to several GP folks with my same set-up and they all say that the 3800 is quite happy @ 6200rpm w/ 105#. now all i'm worried about is the tranny. we'll see .

Also did you use LS1 retainers?
I'm just saying that with the deflection in a modified rocker you prolly would of been safe with new stock springs and higher shift points. Also because of that deflection modified rockers don't like higher rate springs.
I'm not worried about the engine (pre say) more about you driving around on a timing chain/dampner that have 139K with higher rate springs. The tranny is a different story.

well i was going to run higher rpm w/ the rockers anyway and i wanted to minimize the possibility of valve float. looking back though i procbably would go w/ stockers @ 6000-6100 but, like i say, we'll just have to see how it goes. right now i'm just ready to get that PCM and smaller pulley in.

Has anyone with a 97 opted for brand new stock springs before? Just curious how it worked out. Seems like a few people have kept their stock springs. What'* the cost difference on new stock vs comp camps 105'*?

not sure exactly but when i was doing my swap apparently it was a decent amount more for the 105'*. i think i paid like $130-$135 for the comp cams 105'*. then the retainers were like $40-$45. either way when you go to do the springs make sure you've got a second person and a whole day w/ no other plans but cussing under the hood of your car . seriously though if you do decide to do the swap on your own i came up with a great system for doing the springs w/ another person helping.
