Getting stuff together for a mini build
Most of you know I currently have the SS M90, and a N*. That is all I have as far as serious power adders
The only thing stopping me from getting it all together is the cash, and well info
Here is my plan:
Near the end of summer pull the motor and trans to give the trans a bit of a refresh, and some beefing up
Trans: have a shop do a rebuild for me, I'll save on labor since I'll pull the trans myself, and the HD upgrade (already found most of the parts)
Valvetrain: Already have a set of P&Ped L36 heads with #105 and stock rockers, GT1 cam (here is where I know nothing, is there any tuning I need to do to add a cam? from what I've read it is a light cam that will work with a completely stock valvetrain, the #105 will help with my higher shift points)
Exhaust: TOGs with a TOG catd DP going into my stock exhaust, thinking about throwing a Magnaflow resonator behind that with a pair of Borla mufflers
Any other reccomendations?

So I would be tuning after I install stuff? Forgot to mention, should I just get a new stock timing chain when doing the cam? and um well how exactly do you install a cam? I will have the motor out so it should be easier but a cam and the lower block are something I have no expierence with

Yes, tune after the install.
yes, get a new OEM timing chain and make sure you get a new tensioner as well.
Do a search for my thread spring build comes early. I did a cam in that thread. It'* not that hard if your out of the car. Valve covers off, rockers off, top of engine off down to cam valley. Timing cover off, timing chain and gear off. Remove lifter guides, remove lifters. Pull cam out carefully. Don't bump cam bearings with cam. If you do, be very easy. Goop up new cam with assembly lube and put it in very carefully.
This is a very general description.

Thanks Dan, how about instead of messing with taking parts out of the heads I just pull the whole head off then all I have to do is pull the pushrods and lifters right? then pull the timing cover and gear, etc...

Ok sounds good, since I'm swapping heads I'll just save myself some work but it sure would be nice to find someone around here that has done a cam to help out

It really isn't that hard. Go threw that thread I mentioned. The one thing you really want to watch is the timing dots. There'* a set on the balance shaft, and a set on the timing gears. They all need to be lined up. I suggest that when you install the gears, take a picture of the dots. That way you know for sure they are right.

Do you already have the Gt1 cam? If not, let'* talk.
Always take a picture. The dots are about the only thing you can't see once it'* back together and it keeps you from second guessing in the case of an issue.
While the motor is out, check your rear engine cover gasket. Our cars like to seep from this gasket and being behind the flexplate it'* a major pain to change until the motor is out.

That sounds like a nice little project. I am hoping to find a 98-99 se and would like to do a similar mod. I look forward to seeing how all plays out for you
I found this one but not sure if I can make the 3 hour trek any time soon.
