Default rice pipe or stock airbox?

question for my 93 SSEi. I have a cheap rice pipe with a poorly constructed heat shield. Would I be better off going back to the stock airbox as I think this is contributing to part of my KR. IAT sometimes get as high as 150 degrees, so i'm thinking about going back to original with a decent air filter.

It'd have to be pretty bad to be worse then the stock '93 airbox IMO. Power was ridiculously cutoff when i went back to mine for a week after the initial testing of the rice pipe in 2004.

Can you post an image to show us? Some heatshield work may be all you need. I ran for over a year without a shield, and it wasn't worst then the OEM air intake.

With your IAT reading 150F.. your pcm should be at it'* lowest timing advance of the timing tables. If you are seeing KR at that point..look to your exhaust manifolds and other KR causing items for the actual source of the knock.

Ensure you are using the highest pump octane you can get...things like that.

This is what I have currently except I have the pipe wrapped with a piece of reflective material that is used for the sunshield deflectors. Plus the IAT sensor is also in the filter now also.

anybody wanna chime in here and let me know cause otherwise i'm changing the pipe out tommorow for the factory box. Also are the boxes for a 93 L27 the same as the ones for a 93-95 SSEi?

Either ditch the ricer filter for one that flows air and doesn't hold water, then build a heat shield, or go back to the stock airbox, drop in a K&N replacment filter, and drill three 2" diameter holes in the front of the box right behind the headlight.

Hot engine bay air and a poor-flowing knock-off filter are killing you.

I went back to the stock airbox this morning. I also purchased a KN filter. Drilled some holes in the factory box. All seems much better than before. The power is about the same and the noise level is less but it'* still fun pushing on the loud pedal
