Default SRT-4 vs. GTP???

Are the cars similiar in terms of performance build-up potential? Just wondering. And yes I do know that the GTP will probably be cheaper to upgrade. I am just thinking in terms of 1/4 mile times, that sort of thing.

The SRT4 is a lot faster stock. You can modify both very easily.

I'm gonna say that SRT4 is easier to mod, being a turbocharged car that is very light. It would be easy to get a lot of boost out that, and with a manual, it will surely fly.

everyone try this: wherever you are, say out loud "I drive a neon!" If you are like me you will probably sound like a fool. Id take the GTP any day, besides it doesnt come with an ugly yellow paint job. Stuff that gaudy tends to get broken into alot.

I actually like the yellow, and am considering painting my GTP yellow when I get it. I guess I am one of the few that like that paint job. Everyone I know does not.

macho_mike, you gotta keep in mind that the SRT-4 is nothing like a Neon. Yes its a "Neon", but the entire suspension and wheel setup is built for performance in mind only and that engine....good god! The original Neon is just an economy car, and its hard to see the SRT-4 in that light.

As for your conversation, mikey made a perfect point that you can mod the hell out of an SRT-4 with Mopar performance parts and keep your warrenty. Both the GTP and SRT-4 have a large list of performance parts, but when it comes down to it Mopar has great turbo packages to upgrade your head, valves, seals, pistons, rings, etc etc.

Both cars will throw you back in your seat, but the SRT-4 will win. All a matter of taste at this point.

You guys still need to keep in mind that there is no replacement for displacement!

The neon is lighter and is a manual so that is why it is slightly faster stock than the GTP. But IIRC it is already putting out like 14psi boost stock. I would imagine your not going to be able to push more than 17 or 18psi stock, or at least I would sure hope not. And your still doing all of this to a 2.4L engine. (i think its a 2.4)

Now the warranty point is a good point to bring up, because that is completely valid. But its not like the whole warranty on the GTP is voided when you do mods. The mods that you did had to cause the problem, and GM has to prove it. So for example, if your heated seats quit working, they would still be covered if you modded the crap out of your engine. But its nice to not have to worry about that with the Neon.

But, mod for mod, I'm pretty sure the GTP will catch up and walk away from the Neon.

But if you want to buy a car thats fast, spend $10,000 on a race car that someone else has already built up to go fast. You should be able to find some 11 or maybe even 10 second cars for that price, or a bike.

only thing i wish the GTPs had is a manual, but I would still take the GTP over the neon. Chances are most of us would buy a GTP already out of warranty (at least I would), so it wouuldnt be an issue.

I was just looking at build-up potential. My thoughts were that the neon reaches limit, then you get a better turbo, that sort of thing. The gtp does as well, then we get the MP112, or turbo, or something else. I dunno, stock for stock, the SRT-4 is more fun to drive, and the GTP is way more luxurious.
