I tried out Haro'* Aeroforce this weekend and now I'm pretty much sold. He just took out his whole vent assembly and hooked up the wires and held the assembly in his hand. The 00+ models have the beauty of round vents but us previous gen guys have it tougher. I've seens some amazing custom pillar pod jobs on the forum but I don't particularly care for that look. On the way home from the MN meet today I had some time to think about alternatives.
Anybody see what I'm thinking?


I made a template of a 2 1/16" circle and it seems like it will fit in the area of the cig lighter. Assuming I'm willing to sacrifice it, what would be the practicality of installing it there?

First question: Is this trim piece easily removable? I saw 3 screws that appear to be holding the piece from the cig lighter to the headlight ****. I'd want a junkyard piece to work on in case I needed to do any custom fabbing and so I could go back to stock by replacing the untouched piece.

Second question: What'* all behind the dash in this location and is there enough "depth" there for the gauge to fit into? If not, I was thinking about pulling the gauge out slightly and angling it toward the driver - angle cut a very small piece of PVC pipe? This would involve some creative fabrication and SEM paint and texture, but I'd be willing.

Third question: I believe the Aeroforce needs a switched power source so would the electrical for the cig lighter work for that? I think it retains power after key-off though. Otherwise I could route the wire somewhere else I guess.

Fourth question: How hard would it be to route the cable behind the dash down to the OBDII port?

So am I crazy??? Should I just suck it up and get a pillar pod? I reaaaaly want it on the dash though I guess I've seen so many bad pillar pods on ricers that the whole look really turns me off - no matter how well done. I also have another cig lighter on the back end of my floor console and up in the roof cubby so it'* not like I'm losing my only cig lighter. Thoughts/suggestions/flames welcome!!

yes, very easy... first pull off the dash trim around the radio and HVAC controls and you will find the other screws. pull all the screws from the top piece and drop the tilt on the steering wheel.. the trim piece will come out after you disconnect the cig lighter wires. a junkhard piece would be prime!

there is some good depth behind the cig lighter, the gauge is only about 1" deep
i think the PVC mounted in the other location would look pretty tacky unless you got some good skillz
i think another good location would be where the gain lever is on some cars, i noticed u didnt have one or anything there, but it is down pretty low

yes you would definately want to run that off a ignition power source

not hard, if you pulled the cluster out, you would see tons of places to put the wires

ok Bill had/has a boost gague where the cig lighter is...its in an OK position...there is pleanty of room there so that is not a problem and the wire routing would be easy also

I prefer a pillar pod because the parameters can be easilt scanned while still keeping the eyes on the road

or i could make you a mount where the cig lighter is with an angle, smooth it and then texture it and put some SEM graphite so it appears factory

you could also mount it where the gague lights are and i have an idea on how i would do that and make it blend, the only issue i see with this is blocking the lights from the drivers postion and the view of the lights

Pat, thanks a ton for the offer! You really can't produce a better looking pillar pod than the one you made. I'm still shooting for the dash mount though. I'm really curious to see the pics of Bill'* mounting job and that project dbeast420 mentioned.

I might consider the cig lighter mount by you too. We'll see how this thread develops.
