Sheetmetal Intake Manifold possible?
I was watching Horsepower TV and they were showing some dragster cars that had sheetmetal intake manifolds. I was wondering, could a intake manifold for the L36 be built out of sheetmetal with individual runners and a large air gap below the main body? I would think that would help some HP and maybe get some TQ. Maybe the manifold could be made to accept a 97+ L67 TB (I can't recall the best L67 TB) The manifold could fix the UIM failure problem. I realize there would be emission issues (where to put all the emission ****). But the basic idea, is it possible?

Anything is possible with enough time/money/research. I think it'* a great idea in all honesty. I would like to fab something up myself, but I can only tackle one project at a time
I think an ideal way to do it is to create the base which mates to the block and heads to create a seal, path your coolant passages, and figure out how to design the plenum/runners to accomodate for the fuel rails/wiring harness. Keep in mind that things like those need to be designed around.

It'* doable, but you need to know the calculations to figure out peak flow and power curve tendencies... I'd consider one thats similar to the Tunnel ram of an LT1.

It'* been done on a Bonneville with good results. With variable length runners no less. No, I'm not at liberty to divulge details due to the privacy of the person that did it, but let this serve as an example that it CAN be done.

Why the Helsinki can't Hector come on here and show us what he did? I wasn't even a member when ADTR was around, and I wouldn't mind seeing his setup.

Great, for once, I thought I came up with the idea first.

Let me talk to Don and another member. I have an L36 manifold here (upper) already, but it needs to go back to Bob Dillon (this is EK98'* failed upper).
I'll give the other boss a jingle tonight about this. Maybe we can get something going on it.
