Default EGR block off plate

I decided to keep busy today. So I went out and got some aluminum bar stock

Then I drilled a few holes in it.

Got out the hack saw. OK, so I don't have a power tool for everything

After a little clean up sanding, here'* what I have.

Tried it on for size. Fits like I made it that way.

And after a bit more work, I had two.

Now I just need to go out and put them on and remove that nasty old EGR.

If anyone wants a set of these, just let me know. I'll make you a set for $10 shipped. I have enough stock to make 3 more sets.

OK, I got them in. The LIM one was easy, went right in. But the header side. I don't know what clown thought it was a good idea to use a bolt that threads in to the holder and comes up from the back bottom would be a good idea, but it'* not. Those TOGs and the huge cross over pipe they have make it impossible to get to that bolt. Oh, I could remove the cross over pipe and get it off easy. But the clamp on the pipe is behind the trans dip stick. Took me 2 hours last time to get that all closed up. Not coming off. I wound up going in with a carbide bit and a die grinder and grinding the clamp away until I was able to brake it off. But I got it.

The bolt was a little short so I had to cut part of the plate away, no big deal.

Now I have a sensor wire begging to have something connected to it. I'm thinking a fuel pressure would be nice to have on HP tuner.

I must say, that really opens up that back corner a lot.

You really only need to block it off if you intercool. But blocking it off will keep things cleaner and not carbon up. You will need a tuner or access to a tuner to shut down the SES light. If not your SES light will be on all the time.

The advantages are a cleaner intake tract. And if you are trying to do a lot of tuning it can also prove to eliminate the added airflow that the pcm allows from it.

The disadvantages are that the cylinder temp is higher and fuel mileage should drop off unless you tune for it properly. If you live in an state that tests emissions, you will fail a visual inspection.

The EGR can be turned off with a tuner instead of blocked.

Hey Bill, with the higher cylinder temps you think a cooler plug is in order? I'm 2 ranges cooler now. Perhaps I should try another range cooler.

I get tested every other year here and have never had my hood opened. Hope it stays that way.

Two ranges, a 104 or equivalent? (I'm not as up on plugs as I should be).

Most of the time you shouldn't have temps much higher. The EGR thing has been debated and talked about for quite some time. Does the inert gas cause a raise in temps or not because it'* exhaust temp gas to begin with...etc etc.

And BTW, I never saw them lift a hood in my state before. Then I heard them close my truck hood and I inquired. They stated that emission testing included a visual.

I used to work for the company that ran your states emilssion program. They are supposed to do visual on emission stuff. That'* why mine is on the car and turned off.

Just to be safe I think I'll keep the EGR in a box and put it back on next year when I get tested.

I you have trouble, I'd put a plug in the header and then bolt the EGR back in place for looks.

If you use that return for another sensor, I'd backt out of the harness and no one would ever know if the EGR had 1 wire or 5 wires.
