I did not see it mentioned, but could a drilled 180 t-stat reduce the possibility of the LIM /UIM gaskets from going out because it'* running cooler?

That'* the theory. It can delay the inevitable. But the proper fix is to replace the UIM with a better design, and a smaller EGR stovepipe. (then replace the DEX with non-DEX and use the aluminum framed LIM gaskets).

Tracy, I personally think 3/16" is tending towards the over-large size for drilling the T-stat.
I run a drilled 180*...two 3/32" holes, one each at 12 and 6 and have noticed no negative side, but then I live in Florida if that makes a difference to anyone.
