I suppose that just comes with experience, which i don't have.
I was afraid of sitting there spinning too, that'* why my first reaction was the worst, and why that time was the slowest, I coulda given it a lot more that time, but didn't cause I had NO idea what was going to happen.
These runs were all in Perform Shift on; Traction off; Perform Ride on, all in the highest gear letting the car do all the work. The next time I go out I will give shifting it myself a shot to see if that makes a diff.
As for starting off the line, most of the times I didn't load the brakes as the yellows came down. I DID load the brakes for my 15.197 time, but only to about 2200RPM.
The second I saw that LAST yellow. I slammed my foot on that gas and ripped my foot off the brake. With all that weight on top of the drive wheels, there was next to no spin. So trying to remove this minor spin would only result in damaging your time.
As I drove around the wet box, just beside it I would floor it and spin the wheels about 3 or 4 times. Hell if it didn't do anything usefull, it was sure fun. Ensure you do not get your tires wet on the way up though! This will cause serious spin unless you get it off before you run.
