Default aussie after some info

hi all, my names troy, i live in australia and own a 1990 holden vn commodore. have a look here if you want: www.hakhawk.co.nr

i got a series 2 vn motor for real cheap the other day that im going to strip and rebuild with some balls. i got it for $50 aus, which is about $35 for you guys. whole motor, minus starter, alternator, ps pump, etc. has heads, manifolds, and all.

now our series 2 motor for those that dont know is the equivalent of your series 1, 92-94 VIN L i think, except we got the VIN C intake manifold, modified to go on the VIN L heads.

so, what i want to do, is retrofit a VIN L tuned intake onto it for something to do. from doing some reading, some of it on this site, ive worked out, that it should bolt on without any troubles, but i am going to try and rotate it 180deg. so the throttle body will sit facing the front of my engine bay. ive heard that the heads are identical either side? is that true? i havent startd stripping the engine yet, so i havent looked.

im also going to try using my own throttlebody, so ive linked to 2 pictures, and i need to know what each hole is for on the manifold, i know some are coolant, but i dont know where to start and my tb doesnt have that many holes.

also, would anyone be able to help me out getting a lower, upper and possibly fuel rail sent over here? as i said, they didnt come out on our motors, and ive never seen one over here.

ive been looking on ebay, and have located a lower manifold for cheap, waiting on postage costs, but the uppers are damn expensive.

also, if anyone has maybe scans of a repair manual for the engine that i could maybe have a squiz at would be good.

hopefully you guys can help me out some,

thanks,

troy

oh, some of you might say, go turbo or get a supercharged series 2, i wil eventually, but i want to do something different first, and stand out from the crowd, everyones going v6 turbo and supercharged crazy down here lately. oh, for later on, how well do these plastic manifolds go with a turbo bolted to them? being plastic and all.

Ok, that'* a bit different than our L27 intake manifolds, so it looks like an Aussie creation for the RWD Holden application specifically?

I'll help with some of the holes, based on what I know. I suspect what others are, but won't speak to those. Only what I know for sure (but may still be wrong).

Top pic:
6 and 8 are coolant. 1 is the EGR inlet. We'll suggest you sleeve that like our Dillon intakes. Dillon is a member here.

Bottom pic:
10,11 are coolant, 12 is egr, 13 SHOULD be your PCV.

thanks for the starting info, i had a feeling 6, 8 were coolant, but do you know why they go into the throttle body? is it like a passive cooling thing? airflow over tb cools down coolant as it passes thru? thats my biggest hurdle, is working out if i can bypass some of these things away from the throttlebody, as ours just bolts on with only one hole going to the manifold, and thats the air intake hole. anything else is vla hoses.

manifold differences from what i can see from pictures, is, yours had a straight neck that possibly bolted up between the manifold and tb, and ours had an elbow to allow space from the firewall.

Wow, an aussie, a real one. Cool. I didn't know they had computers and internet down under. Do the toilets really flush counterclockwise?

I say go with a turbo, it'* the most efficient poweradder.

lol, yep, im a fair dinkum aussie alright. ive never really paid attention to the toilet, even after seeing bart do it in simpsons so many times.

yes, we have internet, very crappy internet, the cities are only now getting public 24mbps cable n that. im stuck on 512kbps down, 128 up. better than dialup i spose.

im not after big power at the moment, just somehing that will turn heads, in a couple of years, im going a m90 on our ecotec (your series 2). this current motor is just gona be cammed, ported, etc. a few goodies. and look crazy with this manifold.

Coolant goes to the TB strictly for emissions. Pre-warms it for cold days. Some bypass it, but we need to make sure your LIM is the same as ours to make sure it'* not a series feed, but a parallel feed in order to block it.

ok, this is the manifold im currently lokoing at, waiting on postage cost to aus. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

maybe someone here could tell me if its parallel or series.

since our motors over here a EGR-less, i wont be running it, both mine and my dads cars have over 300,000km'* on them, and not a sign of burnt valves, very rare problem over here. so, i will be blocking off ports.

can anyone get some decent pics of lower and upper manifolds for me? would be good.

hey guys, been a while, BillBoost37 has organised a manifold for me, i just have to pay for it.

now, while hes working on his car, could anyone tell me what the height of the manifold from bottom of LIM to top of UIM is? im just trying to get an idea if it'll fit under the bonnet still. does it sit much taller than the LN3 intake? and the diameter of the intake.

thanks all

We're going to need a couple to measure. Keep in mind Bob Dillon here sleeves EGR'* for us in order to prolong the life. He usually has a couple spare uppers laying around.

I'd measure for you, but the only cars I have availalbe to measure are L67'* and an L27 (your Series 2).
