Default Mini - AFC questions?

So how do you know where to set one of these? I know you should look at the o2 readings thru autotap, but if you don't have autotap how do you know where to set it? After what mods do you start to run lean?

My understanding is that default setting is where you begin (100%?). Ask jeffrey for all the details.

You NEED a scan tool (ar at least access to a scan tool) to use a Mini-AFC. Since every car is different, one car may run very lean with certain mods, and another car with the exact same mods may run very rich, and another may run where it should run. 100% is the same as not having it in. So 102% is setting it to run a little richer because it is running lean, and 98% is setting it to run a little leaner because it is running rich. Its a very simple tool, as long as you have a way to monitor your 02 readings.

Hope that helps.

Darn it, I knew that was the answer, I was just hoping for an alternative. Guess I'll have to get my self Autotap. I already asked one of my friends if I could borrow her laptop from time to time. She dosen't care, I was just trying to delay spending $250 on software. Oh well, have to wait a bit, hopefully next month I'll get it.

Taylor, you could go a more rough route and get an air/fuel gauge and mount it on the pillar.

Yes but then he still doesn't get the KR, timing advance, trouble codes, etc...... readings that he will need to get eventually. With the autotap you can monitor any perameter that is in the PCM, something like 4600 possible things you can monitor.
