Default custom headlight idea (87-91)

I was driving around the other day and i saw a few older BMWs with the 4 round headlights. Then I started thinking... This could be a neat mod for my bonne! So this is my plan. Ide get a 2 pairs of driving lamps (the clear glass kind) and mount them to the back of a pair of gts clear headlght covers. I would mask off where the lights shine through and paint the rest of the inside black. All you will see is 2 round circles in each headlight. Does this sould like a good idea? What problems would I come across?
Here is a very crappy rendering.

If you plan to remove the old headlights, and mount in this stuff, you will need to fab up some bracketry. You have plenty of room behind the headlights.. so clearance won't be an issue.

My only suggestion is to maybe humor getting the BMW lights, and fabbing up your own bracketry, because i'm doubting the GTS plastic.. especially if you put on some 50+watt bulbs. European headlights are awesome for high wattage bulbs.. so you may want to just grab a whole assembly or something. My dad has an '85 745i, and that has the exact headlights you are talking about.. so even 20 year old BMW'* will have what you need.. so finding parts shouldn't be that hard.

opensourceguy, do you think you could take some measurements of your dads 740i? there is about 4 inches of hight in the front. I would make a bracket for the lights and just use the clear headlight covers to give the front a smooth appearance.

I'd think that without reshaping the reflectors, you'd end up losing a lot of the light from your headlights.

Not to mention the potential legal ramifications....

you can just but those headlamp mask things that are sold in most parts stores and make your own design... heck you could even get some headlight covers and cut 'em up

It'* all good lol.

I was looking at my uncles old 5 series (boxy kind) and it seems that if the round lamps fit between your hood and bumper, you could just cut the black surrounding peice to fit.

good luck

I wouldnt have top reshape the reflectors because I would be using two seperate round headlamps in behind the clear cover. Basically I am just mounting two driving/fog lamps where the headlights are, and covering them with a clear plastic to maintain the shape of the front end. Also i think that it would look a bit funny without the plastic because I am going to leave the parking lights on.
Theres an older bm near my house and the headlights are about 6 inchs wide, ill have to find a newer model to compare.

How bright are Angel Eyes? Could I use two pairs of those? Can I just put a high beam bulbs in one of them?

No. Driving lights are not Headlights. Find the headlights of a car you like and graft them in. Headlights meet different specifacations than driving lights.
