Default Series II Intake Swap to a Series III Long block

Recently I had a friend that has a 04 Grand Prix Series III 3800, non supercharged that wrecked, and he offered me the motor for practically nothing.

Is it Possible to use the 04 Long block, and remove the upper Intake which included the Throttle by wire setup, and install my 2 pc manifold from the 98 Series II?

I'd love to retain the 1 piece aluminum intake that'* on it now, but the throttle bodies are different, fuel rail is different, and im sure a few other things too.

Im lookin for quick, easy, and straightforward.

the only other thing I think I would have to watch is the Oil Filter extention neck to see where it points from the W body Grand prix, to the H body Bonnie.

Anybody know?

Yes it will work.

In addition to the upper intake, fuel rail, and oil filter adapter, you'll also need to swap your tensioner assembly (so you can use your alt), the rear exhaust manifold, torque axis mount, and wiring harness.

Thats what I was hoping.

I'll just use everything from the 98 on it.

Mabee I will get this pile of junk out of my garage this year....

*Suddenly the sun comes out*

Once I get it running...then I can try to figure out why the car shuts off suddenly...and then doesn't start for 5 or so minutes later.

I'd suggest keeping the aluminum UIM and getting a TB adapter so you can use your TB with the aluminum L26 UIM.
That way you won't have to worry about the UIM going bad.

Then you'll have a horribly matched TB to UIM and won't have a working PCV system.

Huh?? How'* that? Are the L26 UIM inlet'* round? Or does no one make and TB adapter for the L26 UIM-L36 TB?

yes the UIM inlet IS infact round on the S3...and the Adapter for the GenV will work on the UIM....you would have to find a L67 TB tho....tuning could get interesting tho

there have been a few guys that have done the swaps on W bodies

Dumb question - why wont the PCV system work?

The L26'* inlet is round and the L36'* TB has a butterfly shape. The bores are different anyway. A L67 TB is closer but still of a mm or to as far as bore goes. And then of course you'll need a tune.

Unless the TB adapter has a hole for the PCV to go from where ever it is on the L26 UIM to the L36 TB the PCV won't work.

I've seen the conncgp link before, and don't get me wrong it can work mechanically, but it comes with sacrifices.

I would just fill the coolant ports of the composite UIM with epoxy that can stand higher temps and forget about the EGR melting problem.
