Default no cat ?

I have a 2000 ssei w/ a stage 1 intense pcm, 3.4 sc pulley, and fender intake. My question is, has anyone removed there cat and if so is it worth the power gain. Is it much louder? Where would I find that strait pipe.

It'* illegal and punishable by law. Don't do it. Plus it provides the backpressure your engine needs.

In spite of the fact that all 50 states don't do emissions, it is a federal law (and stiff fines) if you remove it. There is also a $250 'finders fee' the EPA will pay to anyone that turns you in. This is to encourage shops and your distant friends and relatives to turn you in. That reward is payed by you, ultimately, when you pay your fine for no cat.

You'll find the only few catless cars here are either strict track cars, or a couple very high-flowing cars in Canada, where it is legal in SOME PROVINCES to remove the Cat.

I ran catless on my 95 SLE (supercharged) for a very short period of time when it blew apart inside, until I could get a replacement unit. I lost low-end torque. If you are intent on doing something to the cat, get a high-flow Magnaflow converter. Several of us run those.

Well, to answer the question ... I do know people who have removed the cat, even on a N/A 3800, which net power gains. You will gain more top end power, and it will be a little louder.

A high flow cat will be a slight restriction, but may be worth it if your state does emissions testing.

I ran with no cat for awhile when my old one died and I really wasn't happy with the results. Although it felt like there was more power up top there was less tourqe for around town driving. Not to mention being bad for the enviroment so I would reccomend a high flow cat if anything.
