Default Connect to Driver Info...

I have a new Silverado and notice that I get the possible ice warning message and that the ONStar system shows me my Oil life percentage etc. I assume that built in to this truck are the sensors etc but I have no control/reset etc for this as I do on my car. Since ONSTar can read the stuff is there some way that I can connect and read it and if so what do I need? I am computer savvy but not mechanical, even a little

Thanks!

There are two methods:
  1. Display OIL LIFE REMAINING on the DIC.
  2. Press and hold the SET/RESET button on the DIC. If the vehicle does not have DIC, press and hold the trip odometer reset stem for more than 5 seconds
On all vehicles, you can also:
  1. Turn ignition to ON/RUN with engine off.
  2. Fully detpress gas pedal slowly 3 times within 5 seconds.
OnStar is only reporting what the on-board diagnostics are telling it.

By the way, everything you need to know about this is in the owner'* manual.

You can only get a diagnostic report from OnStar AS a subscriber of their service. OnStar and the Driver Information Control are two separate systems yet tied together for certain readouts. If you subscribe to OnStar and register online, they will send you a detailed report of everything once a month to your email.

If people read owners manuals you wouldn't have a job.

Not everyone punches a hole in the top left corner and hangs their owner'* manual next to the throne for reading material like we do John.

Well thanks but as is evident from the replies, this is why these forums sometimes are not helpful. First I did not ask how to reset anything but how to connect to and read the information myself. As I also said, I have no information center buttons. Yes, and for John, I have read the owner'* manual so please refrain from making such comments when they add absolutely nothing to the remedy - flame on. And Finally, everything you need to know is not in the manual - somewhere in this truck there may be a DIC wiring harness so I have found out. Man, I should have known...

You can't ... which is why I provided directions to the only thing you can do, reset the counter.

We love it when people who know everything ask for our advice. They are always so receptive.

I answered your question very coherently. Want a readout of the Diagnostics, pay-up to OnStar. Apparently you just don't want to accept the reasonable answer. There are more expensive alternatives. Buy a good scanner and print things out, or take it to a dealer and pay for them to do it for you. You want what you can't have. Sorry there is a cheap way out of your question. Grow a skin man, we are NOT here just to be tech robots for your wants. We are human and like to kid around.
