Default Gtech'd some intake combo'* - stock still best HP

Tried some different combo'* of intake & MAF screen using my GtechPro and got the following HP results:

Stock intake w/o MAF screen: 171 peak, typical 155-161

Mandrel bent 3" tube w/K&N w/o MAF screen: 155 peak, 145-150 typical

Stock intake w/MAF screen: 183 peak, typical 167-171

Mandrel bent 3" tube w/K&N w/MAF screen: 167 peak, 150-157 typical

Tried different combo'* of drive and traction control and settled on running with traction control off and transmission in "D" as it gave me the most consistant readings and highest peak HP. I kept the Gtech mounted in the same position and constantly on during the intake changes. Also, the typical readings represent readings across 4-5 runs.

I realize things with the aftermarket intake might be better if I had a CAI setup, but I would be surprised to see a 16 HP gain to match stock ( I was only expecting a 5 HP gain over stock anyway). I've seen the 183 peak on other days with the Gtech so it seems repeatable.

Anybody else seen only so-so Gtech results with an aftermarket intake on an N/A?

3" is too big for n/a you should have 2.5". 3 is for superchargers.
You see how the power went up with the maf? This is laminar flow across the maf giving a nice reading, also linning up the air into the intake.
At 3" there is little or no vortex created and no layering of air into the intake.

I'd like to see gtech numbers again with a 2.5" intake, then there would be a gain.

Your Kidding? Right? Even on a series 2? I thought 3" for NA and 3.5" for SC? Man this sucks, i got to buy new **** now

I wouldn't go with 3.5" even with a SC, you'd want to keep the velocity of incoming air up as much as you can, so 3" would work fine..but that'* just me.

I currently have a 3" on my NA and there'* definitely more power than stock. But if you have just a cone filter intake and not any exhaust mods maybe that'* why you didn't have higher results, because you're sucking in so much more air but not letting much out...just a guess.. :?

I recently just got some exhaust mods done. I feel better now. I was running 3" intake without exhaust for a month, but the new exhaust seems it helped it out.

You made a big mistake in your testing. You didn't give the PCM time to adjust. You need to do this with the same humidity and temperature, but with at least 100 miles of 'sport' driving between hardware changes.

Your data means nothing, as the PCM is 'tuned' for the stock setup.
I'm not even going into the inaccuracy and unpredictability of the Gtech. And yes, I've owned both. For 1/4 times, it'* pretty good, but for consistency from run to run in hp or tq, it'* seriously lacking. A 5-10% error would throw your data all over the map, even if you had given the PCM adjustment time.

You need to give your PCM the time to re-learn the fuel curves. By putting on a better flowing intake, you end up running lean until it re-learns. It takes time. PCM'* are not designed to make sudden, drastic changes. They average, and make 'baby steps'.

Are we talking days or weeks? Just curious.

100 miles, that would be about 2 days for me, depends on how much you drive in a day.

I pulled my MAF screen today. Noticable increase.

note that in techinfo it says you are only supposed to remove the MAF screen if you have a smooth pipe going into the TB. There are tests that show the CFM increase by removing it.
