Default A new twist on twins

Gearing up for some changes on the 95. It'* going to be the test car for an odd twist on twin turbo'*.

First (small) turbo will spool VERY early (SC is being replaced of course), carrying me up through the 'low' rpm'*. At a certain point (depending on response during testing), an RPM switch will change a gate valve, switching over to the larger turbo when it spools. At this point, the first turbo will be changed over (via another gate valve) to cool the housing of the larger turbo.

M62 will be gutted and used as an UIM. MAF sensor will be 'divorced' from the TB, and TB will be heavily ported and gutted of the MAF support.

The smaller turbo will be intercooled, the larger turbo will be driven off the exhaust just prior to the muffler.

This way I get more even power distribution across the band, and don't have to wait for a larger turbo to spool.

Have parts, doing the install myself.

I was originally going to twin-charge, with the SC, then dump to a turbo at the higher rpm'*, but the mechanics of it are a bit tough. Then I realized that without the nosedrive (using the M62 case as a manifold with a blockoff plate), I gained the room under the hood I needed for the second turbo.

No-brainer. Just have to finish the new changes to the SSEi'* SC and LIM first, so I can drive that while I tear down the SLE.

Sounds like an ambitious project...should keep you busy

I saw this little twin turboed 455 Oldsmobile on the weekend;

His best was an 11.18 ET, didn't catch his trap speed.

Fun, fun, fun...

Cheers,

Hector and I were geared up to twin-charge the SSEi 3 years ago. Haven't been able to get that out of my head.

I wanted to do it differently, but still wasn't willing to wait for a large turbo to spool. This is a good compromise, methinks.

Please forgive my ignorance,
But why cant you use the same IC for both turbos?
