what can i do to my sII?

There is no safe date on UIM'*.

Carefully inspect that UIM, replace with an APN kit or a Dillon kit from Bob Dillon here.
Lower intake gaskets should be the new aluminum frame GM design.
Flush the DEXcool completely out of your car and switch to the Prestone long-life Dex compatible coolant.
It'* a 3-part fix.

i know that the UIM failure is a common problem, and the car did have dex-cool in it, (which will not happen again) but are you sure that the possible UIM being crappy is what caused a spun bearing? there was no apparent coolant in the oil, nor did the level seem low. Is there a way to inspect the UIM for damage to see if it really does need to be replaced? i'm not against replacing it, i just want to spend as little money and time fixing this as possible.
