What brand should I go with rollmaster?

If your going to replace your gear set, ya, that'* a good choice. I went with a factory replacement from ZZP, it'* $37.

From what I read the Rollermaster double roller is the only aftermarket (meaning not meant to be a stock replacement) timing set that does not fail more than stock. There is a ton of info on why others fail and what you should do to make them work correctly since the Aussie cranks they were designed for are different. I'll try and find it.

I've been running a stock timing chain on 90# springs and a GT1 cam for 80k+ miles. And for the 1st 10k I had stock retainers. (this was back in 04' I didn't know any better)

That said, I am going to try running without a balance shaft. I'm also going to run a ATI Harmonic Balancer I got for cheap. My idle is also going to be about 1k due to the larger cam I plan on running.

Well should I get just the chain or a whole set. Rollmaster and JP performance make whole sets, and ZZP sells just the chain...?

Your gears should be just fine, but only by inspecting them when off the engine will you know for sure. Changing the chain and tensioner should be fine.

Stock, Rollmaster, and JP do not have interchangable parts.

If you're not going Rollmaster or JP, then you should get a new stock chain and dampner.

Double rollers don't use dampners.

And at this point Rollmaster doubles are the only sets that seem to have a low failure rate.

I know they dont but if I can get by with just a chain great but if I need a whole single timing set kit then so be it.

If you're talking about an OEM replacement chain, then yeah you can get just the chain.

Ok, because I do not see anything wrong with my gears so I assume there is no need to get an entire kit.
