helping an 00+ breathe better
hey everyone
im thinking of upgrading from my embarassing SE exhaust for my 01 to a the dual exhaust. (i testdrove an impala SS with a friend and liked the exhaust)
Im sure this would help the engine breathe like it should and i just want to do from the trunk area..back.
I'd like to stick with either a stock SLE SSEi system, ive read they just bolt up with a few twists and turns, also ive heard of different aftermarket companies making mufflers and stuff for cars.
anyone want to lead me in the correct direction?
project should start sometime in august or september.
thanks

Exhaust improvements for the most part will not improve your performance, and may actually hurt you.
Most SSEi'* here keep their exhaust mostly stock well into the 14 second range on the quarter, and keep stock tube diameters into the mid-13'*.
If you 'free-flow' your exhaust too much (very easy to do), you will lose exhaust velocity, costing you low-end torque.
Our factory exhast is mandrel bent pipe, and is designed for performance.

If he utilizes the stock SLE/SSEi exhaust from the 'Y' back I doubt there will be any loss. I doubt the SLE'* with dual exhaust are less powerful than the single exhaust SE'*.
But, I have to agree with Will, especially based on my personal experience with exhaust work I've done, that you don't want to go larger than stock, maybe 2.5" at the most.

willwren i agree. thats why i asked this before i went into this project. many thanks.
If I were to run the Y pipe and find a SLE/SSEi system from a Junkyard, would it work better? Or would it sound better than mine right now, and thats it.

thinking about all of this, im not sure i will be doing the upgrade. losing power scares me, im trying to gain power and help the engine breahte better, i could careless about sound at this point.......however the sound of the stock duals is a beautiful thing.
Here is a good question, not knowing much about the other models than SE'*.
If the SLE model has the N/A engine and the stock Dual exhaust, wouldnt it perform better than the single exhaust stock that mine has?
