EGR block off plate
Ok, I've been seeing people doing this and am wondering what are the gains? I realize that it blocks the hot exhaust air from coming back into the intake, but besides that what are the benefits of it?
Just wanted to know before I go get my heads worked and figure that as long as I'm working in that area I might as well put the EGR block off plate in IF IT IS worth the $$ or a waste of enough $$ for a couple gallons of race fuel.

not only does it keep hot exhaust air out of the intake, but that exhaust air is pretty sooty which will dirty up your SC pretty quickly. This is why if you take off your TB you will notice its all dirty behind the throttle plate. The downside to this is that you will lose a few MPG per tank, because the air it puts back into the engine has some unspent fuel left in it.

What I'm getting at is there is no real proof that this is harmful to a Series II L67, besides horrible gas mileage. Now don't you all go out there and do this, but there are a few of us that are trying it out and will spread the word.

whoops, I forgot about that. You probably wont see any gains from an EGR blockoff, ther was a post about this awhile back and the general consenus was that the cons outweighed the benefits.

My take on this whole subject: As long as you have a Series II (preferably an L67) and have cooler range plugs, plug wires in good shape, and an aftermarket PCM to take care of any suspected leaning out of the fuel mixture...you should be fine to block off the plate. But don't quote me on that because I don't need one of you punks coming back yelling at me that I said it was alright to block off your EGR!

I remembered the part about the burnt valves, but was mainly wondering about the BENEFITS. Anyhow now I'm starting to see. Hmm. Some way to filter the garbage, but yet allow the unspent fuel through..... Let me know when this happens.
