ENGINE GURUS!!! PLEASE HELP!!!
Today at a local junkyard I found a '92 SSEi, which to my surprise, had the engine & blower still in its place. The mileage is unknown, as it has the digital odometer.
My question is, would the '92 SSEi blower work with my '89 SE engine? Would it be worth spending $100 Canadian ($60 US) on the blower? How difficult would the install be? (I know it must be more challenging than just bolting it on and running the belt through it!)
Please, give me an answer ASAP. I have a feeling it won't be there for long. Thanks a lot!

no, the blower won't work on that engine. check out the timeline at willwren'* page.

the two engines are quite different from each other. the concensus around here is it would be difficult at best to put a blower from an ssei to an se from the same years, much less different years, engines, etc. unless there is some trick i don't know, buying that blower would net you a $60 doorstop. many threads and gearheads around here recommend doing an entire engine swap if you're looking into that kind of thing, but i have no idea how a series I L67 would fit into the older body style. gearheads, please correct me where i'm wrong.

I'm usually on the other side of most people that talk about */c'ing a n/a in that I think its more of a possibility than "no way." Although this isn't one of the cases.
I think doing a swap of this kind is going to be more difficult if not nearly impossible than others that talk about swapping */c'* from the same year. One problem you may face is coolant passages. what if they don't line up? Between the same years this probably isn't an issue, but 3 years? What about possible hood clearance issues? Intake positioning, proper belt sizing and routing, injector size, compression ratio...The list goes on. This isn't something you can say "I have $60, can I do it?" Unless you have plenty of money and time to burn you don't usually want to be the first to try something big. JMO

This WILL not work without the WHOLE engine. Not only will your tranny hate you, your coolant passages ARE NOT the same. The intake may bolt up, but the coolant passages WILL NOT WORK!! Putting new heads and intake at the same time wouldn't work either, because coolant passes through the heads too. Don't even bother trying to retrofit it, you will just do engine damage.

L27 heads have two more passages then the 88-91 heads i believe. If you're going to do it, grab the heads from the L67 engine, so you don't have to port match either piece....
But will it last? Who knows....

Its actually possible to supercharge the LN3, the L67 heads will bolt to the LN3 block with no issues... But the LN3 was not at all in any manner designed for that abuse... The transmission is far from able to handle the torque that the L67 will put out... So either way in the long run it would be more feasible to tuck an L67 under the hood... Unless ofcourse you have a lot of $$$ to fork out...
