Default Synthentic oil?

I have run Amsoil in all of my other toys and alot of my friends run the oil in their vehicles. Would Amsoil be a good choice for a 2000 SSEi or is their other opinions on synthetics that other people have had experience with?

Amsoil is THE BEST thing to do to any engine, trans or differential.

I am currently using Mobil 1 in the motor. I plan on using Amsoil in the tranny after the first fluid change.

Why do you want to switch the tranny fluid? It was designed for the regular stuff. But if you do switch to synthetic ATF, only use Redline or Amsoil. Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF will make it slip and you can never get power to the ground. I know from experience.

The tranny should run a good bit cooler with Amsoil ATF.

I think the biggest drop in temp I have seen has been 20-30 degrees.

I run Amsoil in my Cadillac and the Bonneville. I have a Bypass oil filter from them as well in the Cadillac. I wll be replacing the stock filter on the B later this year. It will get the relocation kit, oversized filter/bypass filter kit, and an external oil cooler. The kit take about half an hour to install and most of that is spent looking for a place to locate the new filter mount.

They have a Preferred Customer program now on their site. It basically gives you the same discount as their dealers get, but without having to get a dealership. It'* $20.00 a year and is worth it if you use enough of their product.

I am looking to keep the temperature down and extend the life of the tranny. I do have a tranny cooler. I also know that (besides neutral drops) temperature is the biggest enemy. I don't think that I will ever realistically buy an aftermarket tranny, so I would like to keep this one in the best shape possible. The manual says that I can go between 50 and 100k miles between services as it is. It could be "years" before I need to change the factory ATF fluid.

Amsoil is pretty expensive, but offers entended change intervals. Is the bang-for-the-buck worth it? Does it make sense to change it out now or wait for scheduled change? If the tranny does not take alot of abuse, is it necessary/worth it? As always, alot of questions for Hector. :P

p.*. I haven't decided against ordering anything, it is just that things at work are a little scary right now, with layoffs and stuff. So I have just put a (hopefully temporary) freeze on my non-critical spending. :(
