Today'* update (exact copy of Gen chat...too tired to do much more.)
Actually the charger didn't seem too bad. However..this topic isn't about my old charger.
Let'* see what'* going on with the new one.
Yesterday was very productive. In aiming to change cam bearings the connecting rod caps and main bearings need to come off for the crank to come out. Well..the main bearings are held in by two bolts straight down on each and 1-3 have bolts on their sides as well. I pulled all the bolts and couldn't get the main bearing caps off. They should come out easy enough from the information everyone tells me. I decide to start the springs. Flipped the motor back over.. put air to the #5 hear hissing (that'* not right???), try #3.. same..odd, GP buddy moves to cylinder #1 as I am looking up toward them to see what'* happenBOOM! Three of the main caps blew off, the last one is holding the crank in. #1 piston came out the bottom partially and the rings are holding it from going back in.
End result, piston is cracked. I should be able to get only a piston from the views of my mechanic buddy and an aircraft machinist. Things will be checked before it goes back together. Overall..bearings look great, only issue is a cracked/chipped piston.
No, it'* not a joke...beginner'* mistake.
Here'* the pics that we did get. Tony was moving and cruising so much no one really got many pictures. Since the head(*) had to come off to put the new piston in.. off to do the springs
Maybe Tony can tell us what this one is of?
Old spring on the right
Haha.. Tony didn't see what he wanted to...
One is missing
This is the bottom end. All bolts and caps/bearings in line left is #6 right is #1
Took the time to clean the subframe of the car, all the parts and accessories that usually you wouldn't take the time to clean.. well.. it'* all clean now. Will be great to put it back together.
The only things left in the block are half of the main bearings, balance shaft, cam bearings and knock sensors.
All gasket surfaces are clean, everything is ready to go back together except that one little piston and checking over a couple things.
Springs are on, heads are super clean. Plug holes cleaned, exhaust gasket area clean...all of it.
Block is clean and ready to be reassembled
All the other doo dads are cleaned including the car.
All I can think of that'* left is reloom some of the car side wiring where it has seen better days and wire wheel the bolts before they go back.
