Balanced flywheel?
Do LN3'* have a flywheel with neutrel balance, or one that balances things? (I think I said that right). I'd like to know since I may have to use a different flywheel (from a 3900) with my LN3. Thanks guys.

I'm not sure but if I had to guess I would say so.
If this has to do with a 6 speed swap, I'm pretty sure I read about someone with a series 1 fiero who got a custom flywheel form west coast fieros. It was for use with a 5 sp.

Yes, this is regarding a 6 speed manual swap.
I haven't got much help from the Fiero guys, yet. I've done some searching and nobody yet has used this 6 speed with a 3800. The V8 Archie might, but he seems to be a ***** (I don't make insults. I speak the truth).
I don't totally understand motors yet. I know what the harmonic balancer is, but what exactly does it do?
I can understand the balancing of a tire...its so it won't vibrate at high speeds. I can see that a flywheel has to be balanced in about the same way. However, does it need to be balanced in a certain way to "match" the engine its mated to?
Like if I were to take a good flywheel from anything, 3900, 2.8L, Northstar, whatever, and mate it with my LN3, providing it bolts up, would it need modified in any way regarding balancing? I once read a thing about LN3s being "externally balanced" and Series 1 L67'* being "internally balanced" which is why I asked. It doesn't make sense to me, but I want to check first with people smarter than I :P
All these Fiero guys regard this Archie dude as like a God and look to him for everything

This is what I'm talking about. I can purchase the exact 2.8L flywheel which was used in his project. I've emailed him back but I think he'* out for the weekend, so the question has been burning in me. He mentions the flywheel was "balanced to match". What does this mean? I may end up using the 3900 flywheel, so I'd like to know.
I'm not an idiot with my english but I know it may be difficult to read all that

http://www.mcleodind.com/faq.html#flywheels
I googled and found this site for Mcleod. I guess they make flywheels and that kind of thing. Here it explains that engines with internal balance use the flywheel and the engine'* internals, and the balance each other.
With external balance, the motor by itself is balanced, and the flywheel iself is balanced. I guess this would be the same as being "neutrel"

Well basically to answer your question about what a harmonic balancer does....
It dampens torsion vibration from the firing cylinders to protect the crankshaft. Basically it prevents dangerous crankshaft damaging resonance.
I kinda realized what you were getting at and realized that you probably aren't talking about the HB
Good luck with that manual trans swap. That sounds pretty cool.

Lets look at it this way...
the Crankshaft on a91 LN3 is the exact same crankshaft as an L27-L67 91-95, all of these engine have an internal balanceshaft, as well as the dampener, but if you look at the back of the dampener you'll notice its weighted... The flywheel on any 3800 will only bolt up one way, and iirc the LN3 L27 and L67'* may be balanced slightly diffrent from eachother..
And I am not sure if the 60* 3900 flywheel would work... But I think Mike has posted some good info for you on that one
