Default CAI benefit negated by PCM?

I read somewhere on the internet that unless you have a chip, the benefit of a cold air intake will eventually go away as the PCM learns the new parameters and adapts. Is there any truth to this? If so, would a high-flow exhaust help the situation?

A learnable PCM will learn that the air is colder and advance timing and things for the good. Its the resister trick that fools the IAT into thinking its colder out when its not that will be unlearned by a learnable PCM. The resistor trick fools the PCM into thinking air is colder so the pcm supplys more fuel, however once the pcm learns its fat by the 02 readings it pulls fuel again. With a CAI the colder air is ACTUALLY colder so you will just reap benifits from it.

I'll back Rogue up 100%. The resistor is bought by fools. The CAI is installed by people who know. And the results back us up.

No prob. Any vehicle will benefit from a CAI, but MAKE it a true CAI. An exposed cone is killing you. Better than stock? Yes. As good as it can get? NO.

And the bobbing head dalmation is another 5hp.

I do plan on making the cold air box... just haven't gotten around to it. I'll probably wrap the crosspipe too. I just got laid off last week so now I have PLENTY of time for the Bonnie! Don't worry it'* all good - 7 months severence + benefits.

And yes, the Dalmation adds 5HP... at the wheels!

Does the air box really help that much? I just got my CAI in the mail and haven't got it on the car yet. I've got a SE non super charged (Dang it) I'm just asking how much the air box will benefit?

About 1% horsepower gain for each 10° colder the incoming air is. That'* pretty significant.

Just curious.

Has anyone with the CAI & box ever put a temp gauge at the inlet to see what the temp diff is verus and open setup or stock box.

I've also been thinking (adjust me as need be)....
If you have the stock air box (gutted of course) and the box draws from behind the headlight (yes rerouting would be better) wouldn't the stock box (if rapped in a heat relective tape) be just as good as the CAI & box. It'* drawing cool air (and actually with the size of the box you should have an air reserve - being it was ramed in quick enough)
and as long as you remove the turbulence by replace that silly according duct you should be good and the rplacment K&N filter. :?:

Thoughts, rebukes?

I think the cone flows better than the stock rectangle sized filter. If you could mount a 9 inch cone in a gutted airbox wrapped in heat tape and had the stock tubing replaced, yes i think it would do the same thing. (although probably not sound as cool)
