Default Intense FWI questions.

Man, my eyes are about to bug out of my head from reading all the posts regarding intake mods. Seems the rice pipe CAI was the preferred system years ago, but from what I have read, the FWI seems to be the preferred route now, is that correct? Anyway, I think I'm going to buy the Intense FWI for my 99 SSE. Water is not a concern as I don't drive it when it is wet or raining. I would like to hear from some others that have the Intense FWI. The part is INT-FWI 9805. Is it plug and play, or will I need to buy some other parts? Has it improved your performance or sound? Anybody have any pics of it in the fender well area? Lastly, this kit has AIT located up at the TB coupler. I had read the best place for it is at the filter end. Any idea why they put it up there?

The location in the coupler is convenient because that'* where it is stock and to mount the IAT by the filter you need an extension harness that Intense sells as well. You can use the IAT extension harness and mount the IAT closer to the filter in the fender well and you'll get cooler intake temperatures and in turn more timing. Here'* a link to how WillWren did his and i just did the same to mine last week.

There is some power difference with the install and you can definitely hear the supercharger whine A LOT more than with the stock air box. Also the FWI is a good beginning mod because it allows for more and cooler airflow into your throttle body which will help support future mods you may wish to do.

Thanks for the link. That was very informative. Where does the evap. cannister go after that? I have an 99 L36, is this kit designed for that?

Look for posts about the Zilla. You'll see my evap canister is relocated behind the headlght for the FWI.

He could, there are enough differences between the 93 and 99 (pcm and ELC pump location) that it doesn't apply as well as it could.

You will have the choice of using the pcm bracket or the stock box. Here'* a link to what my choices were and how I solved for the pcm etc.

SSEiMatt93 did something similar on his 97, and found a way that he didn't have to modify the PCM box and retaining it.

ELC pump location isn't even a factor. It makes no difference with a FWI install on either half of the generation.

Our Canisters are in the same hole for all cars from 92-99. Pull it out, pick a location, and extend the harness (if equipped) and vac/purge lines if necessary. It'* a very simple task on any 92-99.

Thanks for the comments. I don't think I'm going to install either a CAI or FWI after all. I'm not all that concerned about maxing out performance....it'* only an NA engine anyway. It'* just that you start reading this forum and start to get a bug. I like pretty much stock appearance anyway, so I gutted the airbox and will drop in either a K&N or Amsoil filter. I have some pictures of the gutting in case anyone is interested.
