So i was lookin at the FWI'* offered by intense and the one for 98-03 cars is 179.99 which is about $80 more expensive then all the other applications, so i added all the stuff up
1. 3 ft of intake tubing about $36
2. 9" K n N Cone Filter $45
3. PCM Tray $16.99

All adds up to be a little under $100
not added in the cost would be the coupler and the ring tightner things
but i dont understand why they would be an extra $80??

the coupler and the clamps are top notch....also the coupler has a specific hole for the IAT....its worth it

you can also relocate the IAT (i'm in the process of figuring out a way to do that/where I want it)...i can sell you the reinforced silicone coupler with IAT hole for cheap....

Get an extension harness and relocate the IAT to the filter or directly above it:

I found 2 FWI'* at WCBF that had the IAT sensor body heatsoaked on a VERY hot day. Granted this is an extreme case, but the best bet is to go UPstream.

wouldn't this only result in false readings. the IAT should be in the same location as the stock tubing, it is meant to measure air going into the engine, not into the airbox. All you are doing by moving it to the filter is forcing a slightly richer mixture. you might as well toss a resistor in parallel or series (whichever would be appropriate in this situation) to slightly lower the temp readings.

and yes, the t-bolt clamps and that coupler are not cheap parts

In the S1'* the sensor was in the airbox and therefore 92-95 I can see where this makes sense. For the 96-99'* however.. the pcm is programmed to expect the heatsoaked temps.

Overall..I doublt there'* much of a difference in either position.

i agree that there likely is no more than a minuscule difference in temps at the different locations, i just think that it is failed logic to move it to the filter area

I'm not so sure I'd call it failed logic. In WillWren'* case it makes sense ... he'* keeping it in an area similar to stock. Therefore the PCM/ECU is seeing things as expected. With the lack of tuning ability on the S1'* and the restriction of no tuning or programming easily or quickly attainable.. it'* about the best that can be done.
