Took the Bonneville to the track for the first time
We had a little get together yesterday with some Grand Prixs from Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal at Sanair Raceway so I took the Bonnie for her first visit to the track. It was a good opportunity to set a baseline speed and see how future mods affect the times.
The car has a 3.5" pulley and CAI as it'* only mods. Track preparation was very little, I used pump gas (1/4 tank), left all parts in the car including spare tire and did not adjust the tire pressure.
The track did not use any traction compounds so it was a little difficult traction wise. There was a 20 mph wind from the passenger side at about 30* degrees off the nose. The GPs felt that with the wind and low traction they were about 1/10 tenth, or 2/10 tenths, from the times they were expecting. I had set out saying I would be happy with a 14.8 ET.
In the end, after 5 runs, my best was 14.632 ET at 95.109 mph with a 2.252 second 60 foot time. No one got under a 2.22 60 foot time. I'm pretty pleased with my time even without facturing the wind and low traction.
Here'* a shot of the slip and the car, hard to see the number 65 on the car;
Cheers,

Nice, i'd like to see what the sc'd LSS I test drove would do on the track. When you run a sc'd car is that with TC on or off? When I drove the LSS it peeled out at every intersection without the TC on.

Very well done. Looks like you schooled a GTP? What was the air temp at racetime (Farenheit preferably)?
What kind of tires and tire pressure did you have? Did you do any of the tricks (i.e. disconnect from vehicle speed sensors, get some guys in the trunk for about 1 minute and pull ELC fuse, etc...)? Strip down the car at all, or anything else that I could use for when I hit the track? I know the 1/8 track I go to doesn't have good traction, but the 1/4 track is absolutely awesome so my short times will probably vary by .1-.2 between the two tracks.
Now, I wonder what I'll be seeing with my 3.4" pulley (possibly 3.25 before the Midwest meet in Mankato), Magnaflow wide open, CAI, removed exhaust resonator, removed MAF screen, Autolite 605'* gapped @ .057, 180* t-stat, Taylor Spiro Pro'*, and some really nice Michelin Pilot XGT Z4'* to help with somewhat sticky launch.
I've got my fingers crossed for low-mid 14'*, but then again my stock PCM has a more aggressive Torque management system than the 1997'*, so I could be in for a slight disapointment.

I autotapped it with the 3.4" and cheaper, smaller cone filter, exhaust resonator still in place, no 180* t-stat, TR55'* gapped @ .060" and was getting excellent readings. Was told that with the exhaust and better intake (to which I have also added a ram air duct along with the big K&N one) that I may have no problems with a 3.25" so I figured after the GM Top End Engine Clean, and the Autolites 605'* gapped @ .057" and things still seam to be in shape (aside from the broken evap canister purge valve) I'd at least give it a try.
BTW, I never asked and no-one'* told me what I would be running for boost. Right now I see 9 -10 psi with the 3.4". Would it be in the 11-12 range with the 3.25"?
P.*. Sorry to go off topic here Foghorn. So to get back on topic, are you planning any more trips to the track soon?

I didn't do much to prep the car for the track as I was more interested to see how it would do in street form. I have removed the ELC and now have new Monroe gas struts all around.
I did remove the driver'* headlight to get better airflow on the runs since I have a custom CAI. We also iced down the superchargers between runs and while in the staging lanes we only started the motors for a second to advance the line and then shut down. Air temperature was about 70* F.
I have Bridgestone Potenza G009 tires with about 2,000 Km on them, I did not adjust the pressure from the 33 psi I run on the street.
Many of the GPs with similar mods were only getting ETs of around 14.5 and no better 60 foot times.
When I had my 2000 GTP I had it at the same track with the same mods and could run 14.2 at 98 mph all day long. Mind you I was able to get 0.15 shorter 60 foot times then and nobody got better than 2.2 60 foot times versus my 2.225.
We were at Sanair for these runs, some of the GP guys want to go to Napierville next week to see if they can do better...I'll probably tag along and see if I can knock 0.2 off my times.
Cheers,
