Default TAPshift??

so i have nothing better to do than think of cool ****

anyway, i love TAPshift....now that this is out of the way i got to thinking

why not install it into a 4T65HD Bonneville...Doable??

here is what i know

Name: howtotap.jpg
Views: 1361
Size: 62.0 KB

interesting notes that i have found

The internal changes to the 4T65E transmission are in the valve body, spacer plate and the channel plate. These parts are unique to the TAP Shift equipped 4T65E transmission. A non-TAP transmission has a different valve body, spacer plate and channel plate and these parts can not be mixed.

The new TAP spacer plate has three notches in the lower right corner. The new non-TAP spacer plate has no notches in the lower right corner.

The new TAP-equipped vehicle also has different fourth clutch plates, with fiber on one side and steel on the other. A non-TAP vehicle will have normal fiber and steel plates for the fourth clutch.
The 2/1 manual band is made from a different material for TAP-Shift(TM) applications. This material will handle more stress than the normal 2/1 band in the other models.

The transaxle filter has also changed to improve oil pickup. The new filter will back service any past model 4T65E and its use is required on all

Notes on what cars could have Tap Shift:

Tap Shift was only available on Comp G’* is 2004. In 2005 Tap Shift was available on Comp G’*, then at the end of 2005 on GTP’* with the Sport Package (these cars were built after the Comp G option was ended when the production of the GXP started) and all GXP’* 2005 to present have Tap Shift and were the only cars from 2006 to present to have Tap Shift.

SOOOO what does this mean

if you were to get a Trans rebuilt from someone like Intense, Could these mods be to the Trans be done

could the Bonneville PCM programming be done to accept TAPshift

could we mount the shift paddles to make them functional on the steering wheel (yes i understand the wheel is different)

Thoughts, info, or opinions

To me, it would be easier to use the shifter from say, the G6 than the buttons in the steering wheel. Another option would be to reassign the stereo control buttons via an interpreter of some sort.

Going from stock, to drag and now to Indy! Cool.

Sounds like more trouble than what its worth IMO.

Tapshift is cool, but if your car is tuned to optimize shift points and such, it won't make you faster because in Auto the PCM will shift way better than a human.

It would be fun to have though.

My Maxx can electronically limit which gear you want it in...something like tapshift but it isn't marketed as such. To me, a shift kit and choosing the gear you want manually through the gearshift works just as good

I've seen a button controlled 4t60e, however he basically removed the PCM from tranny duties and rigged up his own set of buttons to control it. It was posted here long ago i believe.

But manually shifting an Auto, is kinda pointless. You still have all of the deficiencies of the slush box, while adding human error to it. We only have 4 gears anyways.
