Turning a 4T60E into a HD
Hi Guys
Done some poking around on here (Search is certainly a friend), but I have not been able to find if it is possible to turn a 4T60-E into a HD. Anyone tried something like this? Is it easier to find an HD and swap it in? I have a guy who can do the reprogramming for me, so that is not an issue. If it has been discussed previously, please point me in the right direction.
It would be for the 95. If the rebuild becomes necessary, I wanna make sure I am properly prepared.
Thanks!

I'll start by asking why you think you need the HD?
I've not seen an L27 or L36 shatter a trans like an L67 yet. I'd go for a standard rebuild with all the updates, then add a shift kit. Your trans will last far longer than the original.

Going to be doing a series of mods to the engine. Polished LIM. Something with the intake. Low restriction cat. Maybe even rockers. So, I will be putting out more power than a stock L36, and I was just figuring that the HD could give me more room to have some fun with it without breaking things. If I have to do a rebuild, I only want to do one!
All the updates and the shift kit are in the plans already. Would be nice to go from the 2.84 (?) to a 3.06 also. Way too tall a gear for such a heavy car!

Your trans will hold up fine with a QUALITY performance rebuild. You don't need the HD because you don't produce the low-end hammer-blow torque of the L67. There are MANY modded L36'* running on non-HD trannies.
Shiftkit? You want the Trans-Go 4T60Ejr. Any reputable shop knows them already. I have that kit in both my cars.

In any rebuild make SURE your shop uses the latest updates. The SONNAX update kit is the best. Particularly the TCC solenoid and seat for the 4T60. Make sure you also get an adjustable modulator.

Looked at the prices and that kit is very cheap. Not having any problems with my tranny now, so would it be worthwhile to do that now instead of waiting for a rebuild? How many hours would it take a good tranny shop to do it?
Makes sense about the torque. Any mods I will be making will probably not cause a great increase in low end torque!
