Header Wrap
While working on my car I felt I had to remove the crossover pipe heatshield or whatever its called to get to a certain bolt and well that didnt go too well. When I get my exhaust installed Im going to have them remove it since its pretty much already torn in half and just hanging there (I couldnt get it off). Anyways I know this will probably cause a lot more heat in the engine bay so I was wondering if some header wrap would fix this heat problem. But is the header wrap adhesive on one side or will I have to use clamps to hold it on? Can I buy this at most auto stores or is it strictly online?

Jegs is where I got mine from, im not so sure on the 10hp claim and i'm not sure it would be worth pulling your xover or manfold/headers off to do it, but if you have them out anway, they will keep the engine bay a little cooler and help your scavanging.

Well I will only be able to cover the part where the heatshield was and possibly a little more so it wont go over the headers.

Might need to watch this stuff. The industry accepts that it will trap moisture and rot headers early, but the rumor is that it works like a blanket trapping heat around the headers and melting/cracking them. This info is still floating on the 'underside' of the performance scene, but I've seen it more and more. Including testimony from people said to have experienced it themselves. I used it for about a year and when I pulled it my manifolds WERE cracked, although this is hardly enough to prove the wrap did it. Meh, dunno.
BTW, rule of thumb I've seen before is 10-15* = 1% but thats just what the "internet" says.

Header manufacturers do not recommend it because it causes cracking due to heat retention.
I have had my headers on my Firebird wrapped for 13 years now, with no cracking but the exhaust temps (350 F) are nowhere near as high as on my Bonne (600 F).

I've had mine for over a year now with no cracking. However, I did coat them with some high temperature cearamic paint before puting the wrap. I've noticed the area under the air intake is not as hot as before.
