Default PCM mods??

Hey all (especially those with a sweet 2000 SSEi like mine),

i am getting a PCM and rockers for Christimas! My lovely wife has heard my wanton plees and given me the gift that keeps on giving - the rockers and PCM. but now i need some help prior to purchase.

i am buying the standard pcm from Intense, but there are extra mods they can do to the chip. what do i want to have done? i know Rogue and possibly Silver Bullet 2000 may have some insight into this, and i plan on getting input from Intense but i am looking to see if someone has a list of mods, a particular mod #, etc.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Being in Ohio Xac, you shouldnt have any troubles with the upgrade. Both of those parts are listed on special too
You will need a case learn after the pcm install as well as a security learn procedure. If you get Intense to do the install they can perform the case learn (or else you need to go to the dealer for one).

Unless requested otherwise, INTENSE Standard PCM'* turn the fans on low
speed at 185 degrees and high speed at 195 degrees.
You can request this be modified to suit your stat, but I see you are running a 180 stat, so the standard should be OK unless you drill some holes in your stat or run a 160 stat in summer. Then you may want them to turn off the low temp P0128 code.

Also, if you are using the INTENSE trani shift kit, like I do, you need to tell them so they don't increase the oil pressure. DHP didn't do this for me and my shifts were way too hard. Now they are much better....not overly harsh.

They will need to know what tire size you have now, so they can adjust your speedo calibration.
If you are planning to go to a smaller size in the near future, you may want them to set it for that size.

I can't think of anything else right now.

Enjoy.

should i have them (INTENSE) take care of the oil pressure ahead of my shift mod? i am thinking about doing that in the future possibly.

i don't plan on going smaller in tire size, maybe just wider at the same height.

106 deg sounds really cold for my application.

any idea what size pulley i can shrink to with the standard chip, rockers, future CAI (real soon on the CAI)?

i have sent Scott an email. i hope to get in on the whole deal - install and parts. i am waiting on the email now . . . .and not so patiently, but i know INTENSE will take care of me.

Be sure to do OR rods and at least LS6 (95lb) springs (105lb if you plan on doing a cam later) otherwise you will probably get valve float. Ask Scott for the latest PCM OS as well. If you have it done at the INTENSE shop they will do the CASE for you.

As long as you don't plan to go above 6000 rpm, you should not get valve float.

If you do, you will need to go to a cam and Stage 2 PCM and can do the springs and rods at that time.

The standard PCM will shift at 6grand for 2nd gear. Even if you do not get valve float right away the higher stress on the springs may snap one and the last thing you want is to drop a valve because a spring snapped.

My advice is do the springs and OR rods with rockers (or do aftermarket lifters and lightweight rods). I've been down this road and just trying to save you some headache. Of course its your car and you can do what you want.

OR Push rods and springs are beyond me right now. they add $200+.

you are talking 6000 rpm under hard acceleration correct? i don't normally drive like that. what is the likelyhood that a once and a while pedal-to-the-floor will break a spring?

i will talk with the INTENSE guys and see what they can do on pricing and install. i may be able to convince my wonderful wife that i need to do i right - she often tells me that i should do it right or not at all.

i have heard the stock springs and lifters can handle this rocker mod but i don't want to make a mistake.

I'm gonna bet it'* no more risky than blowing up the trani.
Thanks for the advice Rogue but if my engine had more mileage on it than it does, I might be more concerned.
I will give it some more thought. It'* a long time until next Springs drag season, and I only get to go to the track a couple times a year at most.
My mods are mostly for killing the occasional 300C or Mustang.

I save the real muscle for my tail happy Bird.

I understand its a few hundred more for the stuff but its cheaper to do it now while you have the rockers off then to do it again later when you realize your getting valve float and the car wont shift. Remember valve float can cause the car to lean out and you could chunk a piston (we had a club member just go through this). I'll say its HIGHLY recommend and leave it at that. My car only had 35K miles on it and I had valve float at 5900. The car would not shift 1-2 at WOT.

It is always wise to have supporting mods for the stuff your adding. Being close to INTENSE and with the local car club I hear a ton of horror stories about things like this.
