modifying stock air intake
I was just taking a look at the car and was wondering if I could simply run some rubber tubing (like the kind connecting the airbox to the throttle body) off the front of the airbox and then down under the car? I would imagine that the air would be much cooler but would I get more air?

hmmm...interesting approach.
I know Drifter is using dryer ducting as an modified intake. He also removed the MAF screen. You might wanna ask him. I have a hard time believing it, who knows, is it legit, I never really asked him.
Gutting the airbox is another good method, a lot of people have done that, most recently DrSuess. And he is thrilled with the results.
All good temporary mods before a custom intake form DP or ADTR

You know what?
They thing that worries me about this mod (ie ducting or running tube down) is the impact of debris. The road is usually a harsh environment. I'd be worried about that down underneath the headlamp area.
If you can properly find a way to protect against weather affects and debris, let us know!
Thats the advantage to K&N cones or any cone in particular, they are mounted up in the engine and no chance of crap getting in.

Yeah I see what you mean with the debris. I'm just working on a fix until I get the ADTR. If anyone has any ideas on this please post. Also what do you mean by wrapping the intake?

Gutting the airbox usually involves cutting out anything that isn't necessary, but is put in there to cut down on noise, etc. The idea is that by doing that, the air passes through more easily, and you get more power.
I looked in my airbox for my '89, and I didn't see much that could come out. I think the newer ones have more baffles and obstruction (more room for improvement).
Some people have also managed to gut their airbox and install a small K&N cone filter, at least on GP'*. That would give the maximum benefit, but i'm not sure if or how that works on a bonnie. I can't afford one right now, so I didn't look into it anymore. :?

i am not sure a regular air filter will reap the benefits of a gutted air box either. i bought a k&n and then i gutted the air box. a regular isnt gonna allow the extra air through like a performance filter. jus my 2 cents tho i guess
