Default My New CAI

Well I added a Ractive heat shielded K&N type filter at the end , silvery aluminum ducting, couple rubber/steel couplings to put it altogether, and some black silicone to hold the MAT(IAT) sensor.

The system is very secure, no air other than what the filter brings in can enter. I left the MAF filter because I am not confident of my handywork, and I want to be able to check for large debris aka aluminum shavings. Everything is sealed up nicely, the filter lies behind the headlight in the original intake spot. Instead of the ducting having a bend in it it makes a half circle kind of shape which I think would be better for air flow.

I am currently waiting for the silicone sealant to dry before I insert my sensor. I will post again when I drive it some, not like anyone will care .

Lol thanks buddy, I will eventually get it replaced with a higher quality pipe probably, but my modification, from what I understand, has been performed for years on other cars.

I even think I remembering reading about someone who did the same thing I am doing... not sure though. Ill check

Thanks man,
I wish I had a digital camera for ya guys so you could see what I am talking about. I'll go price em in a couple weeks.

I am thinking I should probably spray paint the tubing with heat resistant paint to further the cooling. Lol all I have is an SE, probably wont be able to notice it cept for a crisper throttle response.

Oh altogether this stuff cost me $40 bucks, give or take 2 or 3 bucks.

Oh yeah, also what about vacuum hosing? They make stuff that has smooth interior walls, oh well I am just passing time until my silicone dries good

I just remembered about those big mouthed ducting stuff you can buy in home supply stores......another idea of channeling tons of air into your engine area, you could put it in the opening on the drivers side of your engine compartment in front of the engine and have it level with the bottom of the engine or perhaps a little higher....man that would supply tons of air.

I bet the filter would fit right inside that opening too...hmmm

i did my own cai too, if you go to my link to cadomain, i have some pics of it there, i used 3" stainless with a 6" K&N on it, since the pic in my sig, i have insulated the entire intake tube, made a cold air box, and now i get only air from the outside of the engine compartment.
How much did it cost to get it bent? Is it mandral? How did you drill and mount your IAT?

Also I can't tell exactly whats going on with your box there, it is obviously large enough to fit a filter in that one side but I am guessing you made it increasingly smaller to the point of the opening of the hood? Is it sealed on the filter side?

Have you seen what I am talking about with the large square mouthed ducting that squeezes into a 5" - 6" hole ? Slightly modified you could bring in tons of air.

Oh I finally drove it around and damn I couldnt believe the difference, its just amazing. If thats only 5-10hp increased then the more open system must make the throttle so much more responsive. It reminded me of driving my '91 Grand Am Quad 4, just barely touch that gas and you would go. Now I wish I had a SC and or a sturdier tranny so I could do more.

Thats awesome.

Since I wont be using a cold air box I think I want to get a 60 degree bend which would suit me better. I asked around muffler shops but the couple I asked dont have mandral type equipment and they would put kinks in the piping, which really wouldnt be nearly as bad as people say especially for my application.
