Default oldsmobile bravada front cv axle

Has any one had problems getting the cv axle on a 2000 awd bravada to slide on over the circlip. It just dosent seem to want to go and i dont know how hard I can hammer it without causing other damage. The old one came off easy enough, cant figure why the new one is having so much trouble going on. This on the pass side. Thanks

you try putting a little grease on the splines and making sure the clip can compress?

Yes, I put a little anti seize on the out put shaft from the diff, as well as the circlip, and the cv shaft slides over it about an inch or so and then gets really tight. it should go about another inch or so to lock. My concern is how hard can i hammer on the axle before I cause damage to the diff. I dont want to get the new axle on only to find out I messed up the diff. This is the first cv axle ive done that didnt just bolt on, and im probably not using a big enough mallet. Thanks for your response.

I have replaced both the left and right front CV axles on a 1999 Bravada. Both went in place with a little "pop". You may want to look if your replacement part is the right part.

I think I used a small block of wood to cushion the load when I hit the axle with a mallet to get it to pop in place.

I took the cv off compaired it to the old one and its exactly the same so I put it back on got it to the same point and used LITTLE bit more a$$ ie bigger hammer and wood block. Went on with a few wacks and seem to be ok. Ive just never put one on this way and seems like a good way to damage the diff, but i guess it worked. Thanks for your responses they helped.
