A.I.R. system removed from 86 cutlass supreme 307 Qjet
Hello everyone.
I've obtained a cutlass and discovered that it had the entire air system removed: pump, valves, air tubes from the engine, brackets, and all hoses. All of the parts, other than the left side tubes and valve and some vac hoses, is in the trunk.
There are screws in the engine plugging up the holes where the tubes went.
The pump spins fine [by hand], but the tubes seen to have built up some gunk inside of them, but I can find new stuff for a decent price.
Should I put this system back on?
Will this have any questionable effects on the engine? I know it may make the exhaust a little stinky..
It seems to drive fine and shift smooth, although I haven't driven it very much at all, nor very far [not legal yet].

the reason people take it off is the vacuum leaks and stuff its constant headaches. all that crap from my car went in the garbage a long time ago. you need the o2, map, tps and stuff to run the electronic qjet and HEI. some like the mileage you can get with that but you have to get intimate with obd1 tuning and troubleshooting which requires a bunch of books, setting the dwell for the carb, etc... its quite a process. if it runs good now i would leave it alone. if it starts to fail though i would do like i did, get rid of everything, put and aftermarket intake, carb, hei, etc. if its tuned by someone who knows what they are doing it will get the same mileage as the cc quad with none of the reliability issues

Well that'* good to know.. Cause it looks like a headache.
it still looks like spaghetti under there, haha, just approximately 6 less hoses. All the sensors are still there. That'* all I need, a new o2. Don't know why it was also taken out of the exhaust.
But indeed it does run smooth, nice idle, instant acceleration.. So I think it'll be ok.
If only it was the 305, have an uncle who has a [Chevy] manifold with a 4 barrel holley just collecting dust..
But thanks for your reply.

you can find 305s for scrap price anywhere. i have one in my metal pile i couldnt sell, every one wants 350 if they are going to upgrade. probably have to get a chevy trans too though i think those still had the weird pattern. dont know anything about those, my pontiac had chevy stuff to begin with. but i did run completly without the pcm so i know it does fine wot wise but the cc part comes in at part throttle cruise, its real rich if everything isnt there like the o2. probably the only way you would know is fuel efficiency, but it will ruin the cats if left a long time. i would much rather have a holley, and do. they are much better to adjust and less complicated.
