Default Frustration w/ AC on '91 Old'* 98

Shader valve on the low pressure ac line stripped out over the weekend while doing some work on system. Went to junk yard and pulled a new hose line from a '93 and was excited to get it for only $12.00......everything was going great, matching up just fine then I went to screw the line onto the condesor inlet........problem......new line connection was larger than old line. Tried to find a reducer/increasor at several hardward stores.....NO luck. I could go and pull the condensor as well......extra work.....or go back to the yard and try to find the right app. Any thoughts anybody? I wanted to scream at GM for making that slight change between '91 & '93. The system on the '92 was R-12 and the '93 was 134-A but that doesn't look like it would make great difference..............every job I do takes 2 days longer than planned!!!

They made LOTS of changes (mechanically) when they changed over to the 134A system. As you witnessed, it wasn't just replacing one type of refrigerant with another. So since you need to recharge your system are you converting over to R134A?

The line changes were specifically because of the R12 to 134a change. Randman and I ran into that on the Frankenbonne project.

You have two choices. You can change the whole setup over to the 134a system sizes and convert or find a correct year or pre 134a car and get that line.

Default Went back and got the right line

Went back, got the correct line......no problems...........................then discovered a front seal leak in the compressor......doing an entire compressor change out......the seals/rings from the one I have to replace it with are the 134A type.......Why do the job in the winter? DE-frost needs the compressor.........

Thanks
