Yeah, but I wouldn't consider Olds a "failed" brand, like some of the others there. More like misguided management. Why GM decided to try and save Saturn instead of continuing to grow Oldsmobile is beyond me. In it'* last years, I think Olds was positioned better to go up against the imports far better than any of the other GM brands.

Then again, I have a soft spot for Corvairs (my Dad had a '66 Monza convertible when I was a kid) so I may be a little off.

My first 2 cars were olds cutlasses....beat the crap out of them and they still ran and performed well. Easy to maintain and fix and plenty of parts for them. My last 6 cars have been pontiacs though. It is sad to see Olds go but I think with the GTO, GTP, WS6 and SSEi'* Pontiac is starting to come back as a performance leader...

I'm with you. I place my 91 Cutlas Supreme right up there with my 57 Chevy. Problem I have is where to keep it safe. It has been a solid and dependable car. I love this car.
It is now just beginning to show it'* age with the headliner falling near the backglass and seals are shrinking and allow a water invasion in the trunk. I hope to fix it in the Spring.
Your right, why did GM let this BRAND go.

Hi: I searched this complete thread from beginning to end for 89 to 93 Cutlass Supreme. Not much in here for my 91. Is that a testamony to the quality of the brand? I think so. My original battery and tires lasted almost to 90K miles and the car was trouble free. My first problem came after I had a 100K tuneup when the tech used a technique to clean my fuel ?? system on the engine. Later I found out that it damaged the system and required replacement. That is it. Great car. Tom

Welcome to the forum Tom! You must have been searching, old timer'* original post was from 2003 and I can tell you are an olds fan, me too. Maybe the Old'* name was too old and it was time to move on LOL...
Here is my 81 cutlass LS I loved for all the great years of service w/ 400k on it~!!

The rust and body mounts failed. It would have been $5k on a body off rotater to fix it.
It served me so well & it broke my heart to scrap it.
At soon as I retired it, I moved on to the FWD 97 Pk Ave I currently own.

Very nice car. Love it. You really gave it a lot of care.
My 91 CS looks good. It never had been hit. I drove it almost 100% of the miles. Almost zero rust. I now have 4 cars. At 80 years old I think I have too many. I been restoring my 57 Chevy for 7 years. Don't think I'll finish it. My children are being groomed to complete it. Now my 91 Olds need attention as it is my true driver. Besides the headliner dropping it showed some startup problem over this cold winter while in the 0 to 30 degree nights. It would start after a few revs but it was very rough. Even back fired a couple times. I noticed under the hood that the cover over the air filter broke away from the fastener on one end. Probable broke because of improper installation as plastic often does. That could be the cause. Plan to fix as soon as good temps return.
I know how you felt about your 81 Olds. That is because I feel about the same about my 57 Chevy & 91 Olds.

Hopefully the kids are able to continue on the Bel Air! Classic car that needs attention are great projects, especially a 57!!
I had to look for a few parts for the Buick PA. It was hard to see my Olds in the yard, or even look at this photo, so many good memories with that ride!
May she rest in pieces... (at least now it becomes useful to other owners that may need something..a donation shall we say)
