92 Olds 88 no start
Help, I was a GM tech back in the mid 90'* and left after several years to become a Paramedic (I tell everyone it is easier being a medic because if you "mess up" fixing a car it comes back day after day until you get it right, but if you mess up on a person...they just die and you move on to the next one.) Anyway, I need some help, I am working with a rather poor condition 92 Olds 88 for a neighbor who has no money. His church offered me a $100 bucks to fix it but I refused to charge him and told them that I would use the money for parts only. The car was having a misfire type of symptom while driving and would at times stall but start back. I retrieved a flash code of 41 (cam sensor) which reminded me of the many I had replaced back in the day. I replaced the sensor, the car started and ran fine no CEL problem seemed fixed. next morning car would not start, has a flash code 58? it has good spark, 50psi fuel pressure, compression and timing seem OK. I have done the VATS "bypass" trick. and replaced the starter for disengaging while trying to crank....any ideas? please....

Alright ive had issues with them in the past.
Hmm code 58 vehicle anti-theft system fuel enable circuit...Now this has me thinking did you reset it by turning the key on without trying to start it for 20 mins then shut the key off and try to restart it..That will reset it and it may work

I have tried to leave the key on for 10 minutes.... If you say 20 is the number I will certainly give it shot. I have called it quits for today though, trying to get some ideas for tomorrow. I will try this first thing in the morning and let you know. thanks

I tried the relearn for 20 minutes and 30 minutes, still no start. I disconnected battery to clear the dtc 58, turned the key and the dtc 58 reset. I pulled a couple of the plugs and they had a strong smell of gas but were not "wet", I also attempted to start it by spraying some starting fluid down the throttle body, didn't work. It tries to start sometimes but dies, sometimes will backfire and puff smoke..... these may be good hints to the problem but I have been away so long I have forgot ???????

Still stuck on a 92 Olds 88 no start
Anybody that can help me out, I am open for suggestions. I have been dealing with this car for going on 2 weeks and am lost. At first it was a driveability problem with a flash code 41, I replaced the cam sensor and all seemed well until the next morning when it wouldn't start. It now has a flash code 58. I have located a TSB that may be the answer I need but the source wants $26 bucks for it and I really don't want to spend that money only to find out the info is useless or that it requires some diagnostic tools I do not have. If anyone can check it for me the TSB # is 92UO16E3. at don't forget I am taking suggestions on what to do next. I have posted a previous thread with more info. Thanks
