'91 88 Stalls In Traffic
Picked up a replacement for my Bonneville that got T-boned, a '91 Olds 88 with 88,000 miles. Car stalls out in traffic, and won't restart until it has cooled significantly. Any help would be appreciated, as I can't afford to randomly throw money at the problem. I've read some of the posts by folks with similar problems, and is there a way to determine if it'* the coils, the crank position sensor, or something else? I brought it home Wednesday, it ran fine on a 50 mile drive. Took it out a little Wednesday evening, again no problem. Took it out for dinner with the Mrs. and the kids last night, and wound up riding a flatbed home. Died first after about 8 miles. Started up after a few minutes. Died again idling in a parking lot a few minutes later, again fired fairly soon. Died on the Interstate about ten miles later, started after a few minutes, then we made it to the Olive Garden. After dinner, it wouldn't start at all for about 20 minutes. It started, then dies again after a mile or so. Then we called the wrecker. Idles smoooth as silk, starts on one crank when not acting up.
