Is there any possible way to seperate the engine from the transmission while still in the engine compartment?

Move to correct area.

Yes. You need a engine lift.

Disconnect the wiring harness and move out of the way.
Disconnect the fuel lines
Disconnect the throttle cables.
Disconnect the exhaust.
Disconnect the coolant lines
Remove the inspection cover on the bottom of the engine.
Remove the 3 bolts from the flex plate to torque converter
Remove the mount between the diff cover on trans to back of engine.
Remove the backwards bolt from engine to trans, back side. A bunch of extensions and a socket will do this.
Remove the other 4 bolts holding engine to trans.
Crack the seal and lift out
