92 88 won't restart after sitting. Cold start fine, imediate restart fine
Hey guys,
I love this car, but it'* been doing this ever since I bought it.
Cold start in the morning is no problem. Imediate restart is no problem. Once the car has been started for the day, and you let it sit while your in the store. The only way to start it is to press the gas pedal half way?

Could be crank sensor or fuel pressure. I would start by checking pressure as it is a lot easier but these cars are known for CPS failures also.

the cps is tough to test most just replace it and see, theres also the icm that causes the same issues. i ussually test those with a heat gun, cold start the engine and carefully heat it up to see if the engine starts cutting out.

Update please? I've been having this exact problem for three years! Fuel pump replaced 6 years ago, fuel pressure is significantly low, and we've cleaned out but haven't replaced the IAC valve.
Next on the list is to replace the IAC valve and then the crank sensor. However, I don't see how replacing these would fix the low fuel pressure, so that make me want to replace the fuel pump.
Last post on this thread was over a year ago. Any solutions?? I honestly plan my schedule for the day around this car'* starting problem

You should start your own thread on this, but the IAC and CPS have no influence on fuel pressure. If you have low fuel pressure it could be a plugged fuel filter or the pump is failing. If you have not changed the fuel filter recently I would start there.

Thank you, 2kg4u! If the fuel filter isn't clogged or replacing it doesn't help, I'll make a new thread (and post the link here for anyone who also has this problem).

The fuel filter is not clogged at all ... considering replacing the crankshaft position sensor (no, it won't address the low fuel pressure but low fuel pressure may not be causing the problem) and the fuel pump. CPS is cheaper and easier so that'* first. Here'* the link to the new thread.
