Default 1992 Park Avenue Gas Smell

My dads 92 Park Avenue ultra all of a sudden had a strong odor of gas in it. It was so bad you could be 20 feet away and still smell it kind of strong. Any idea where to start looking for the problem?[/quote]

Did your dad just fill the tank up? Maybe they overfilled the tank and some spilled around the fuel filler door and you need to wash away the excess spill. Or maybe they forgot to put the cap back on the filler tube. Then look underneath the car to see if there are any leaks by the gas tank. Then follow the fuel line that travels behind the left door sills. The Fuel Filter is located behind the left rear door sill(well, at least it is with my Olds). See if the Fuel Filter is leaking. In the engine compartment, you might want to take the plastic shrould off the top of the engine to see if the fuel injectors are leaking. And check for leaks around the fuel rail. Has there been any work done on the car recently? Just follow your nose. Good Luck.
