Default Delta 88 Cam Sensor Error?????

Got a 94 Olds Delta 88 Royal with the 3.8. It runs perfect and has no problems other than the damn cam sensor code. I put a new cam sensor in and, it didn't help any. While I had the sensor out, I took a mirror and looked through the hole to check the magnet, its still there and the plastic is not broken. The magnet is fairly strong as I put a 3/8 drive socket up to it and it stuck pretty good, so the magnet is fairly strong. That leads me to believe the magnet is good. So if the magnet is good and the sensor is good, where do I look next?? Its driving me nuts, I keep getting both cam sensor codes, 41 and 42.

Anyone have any ideas?

the cam signal goes thru the icm. to the pcm. so you first need to check for continuity between the cam sens harness and the icm. then from the icm to the pcm.

i have a book for 92 and 93, but not the 94-94. i know they are different. someone will chime in on the pin-outs.

41 is total loss of signal, so may be a loose wire or the icm?

A common problem is that the magnet in the cam gear breaks loose. The magnet goes into the cam gear from the back, so it'* a pain to replace properly. But it can be done by JB welding a new magnet to the cam gear through the sensor hole in the timing cover.

he mentioned that he can see the magnet, and it held a 3/8 socket.

the icm is the ignition control module, come on you knew that. the module under the 3 coils.

after I replied I was looking at the car and it dawned on my Ignition Module, I just never call it a icm. I checked the wiring between the sensor and the module and its good, making good connection. I swapped module with another icm and still throwing a code.

I guess next I need to check between the icm and the ecm. dammit....

I fixed it by replacing the PCM, pretty stupid that that code was caused by a bad pcm and the car had no other problems and drove great.
