1992 Olds 88 Royale AC Compressor not engaging after stereo install
I just had a stereo installed. I went to vacuum the car out and on the way there the AC wouldn't blow cold. I talked to the installer and he denied that he could have affected the AC. I know he has something to do with it but he denies it. I checked all the fuses under the dash and they were all good. I took it to get the inspection done today and the tech said the AC compressor wasn't engaging. Should I check where the AC controls are on the dash and make sure all the wires are connected. I don't really know where to start. I am a broke soldier and I just want some darn AC.

usually if the compressor isnt engaging it means the freon is too low. if you take it to autozone they should let you borrow an a/c pressure gauge through the loan a tool program to check the pressure.

Just a thought, as these cars age the gear inside of the temp control actuator gets brittle and can crack especially after the battery has been disconnected. The system attemps to calibrate the position of the gear and if this happens the gear slips. If you can see the actuator, try changing the temp and watch the actuator arm and see if it jumps while it is trying to move. If so you will have to replace the actuator

You may be able to remove the glove box and see it. Look for a rod attached to a whie plastic lever. You can also search this forum under aix mix actuator door or HVAC or AC problems.

It has been cold out lately so I haven't really been worrying about the problem. Today I decided to look at the actuator and noticed it stays in one position. If I move it with the vehicle off to the left once I turn the vehicle on it goes to the right. I messed with the controls and the actuator never moved.
